The extension to Dubai Festival City came several years on from the completion of the first phase for which Waagner Biro Steel and Glass was a key façade subcontractor.
The project features an enlarged Festival Square connecting with the unique existing waterfront dining locations. The extension phase included repainting work, removal of some kiosks and the addition of shopping space for retailers. The enhanced Dubai Festival City Mall continues to provide families, residents and tourists with the most appealing shopping, leisure and dining options.
The success of the Waagner Biro Steel and glass involvement in the first phase ensured that we were naturally involved in the extension phase.
Waagner Biro Steel and Glass’s works on the extension includes the Canal Walk Roofs North and South, an approximately 26m wide and 220m long arch roof structure in steel with standing seam roof cladding, various strip lighting systems and two oval skylights as an extension to the existing Dubai Festival City Mall.
The two oval shaped skylights and the additional Grand Lobby Skylight are formed as a delicate lightweight structure in steel and glass to provide a representative link between the shopping mall and the Intercontinental Hotel. The vertical façade elements covered with aluminium composite panels (ACP) provide an architecturally appealing solution.
